Ex-Super Bowl champion RB gets elevated by Bills for crucial game

Playoff Lenny is ready to contribute to Buffalo’s playoff push.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Saturday that the Bills are elevating veteran running back Leonard Fournette from the practice squad for their game against the Los Angeles Chargers. 

Fournette is now set to make his Buffalo debut (as well as his first appearance of the 2023 season).

A Super Bowl champ with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, Fournette, 28, has multiple seasons of 1,000 yards rushing under his belt. He got signed to the Bills practice squad at the end of October but had some difficulty adjusting to Buffalo in one notable area.

Saturday’s Week 16 game is really crucial for the 8-6 Bills, who are currently outside the AFC playoff picture looking in. Fournette won’t have a featured role for them, especially since starter James Cook (who rushed for 179 yards in a blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys last week) is playing so well. 

But Fournette could still contribute meaningfully against the Chargers in any short-yardage or goal-line situations that may arise.
