Exec reveals major prediction for Jets-Packers Aaron Rodgers trade

For now, Aaron Rodgers remains a member of the Green Bay Packers. The future Hall of Famer has made his intentions clear, as he intends to play for the New York Jets in 2023, but there is still some work to do between the teams when it comes to working out a trade.

All signs are still pointing to the Jets ultimately coming away with Rodgers, but other teams are beginning to monitor the situation. The Tennessee Titans are the most recent team to be in touch with the Packers, and there were rumors about the San Francisco 49ers also potentially getting involved.

Could that all be some posturing from the Packers, who were reportedly upset about the low-ball offer that the Jets presented them? After Rodgers said he intended to play for the Jets, whatever little leverage Green Bay had went out the window, and New York tried to take full advantage.

Right now, the sides seem to be at a stalemate. The Packers have offered some concessions in a trade, but the Jets remain hesitant because Rodgers also revealed how close he was to retirement. Knowing he could only be in it for one season, New York is seemingly getting cold feet, not wanting to unload multiple assets for what could be a one-season rental.

Something will give eventually. A former NFL executive provided an opinion on what would happen when talking to NFL Analysis Network. This person believes it will be the Jets who blink first in trade negotiations.

“I think this will come down to the wire. The Packers aren’t going to budge; the Jets are. I think Green Bay ends up swapping pick 15 for pick 13 and getting a second-rounder to boot.”

The 2023 NFL Draft begins on April 27, and that would seemingly be a soft deadline to get a deal done. The Packers want to get as much value in return for Rodgers as possible, as they were originally seeking two first-round picks. That wasn’t something the Jets or any team was going to come close to meeting.

The one thing that the former executive got right for sure is that this will go down to the wire. Given the state of each franchise, the Jets are certainly under more pressure to get a deal done. They came into the offseason with a clear goal of adding a quarterback and have put all of their eggs into the Aaron Rodgers basket. If they are unable to get a deal done, this offseason will be a massive failure.
