Expect the Packers to give Jordan Love more responsibility

Expect the Packers to give backup QB Jordan Love more responsibility in 2022

Jordan Love was finally granted the opportunity to start an NFL game last season after QB Aaron Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19. It was Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City.

The Utah State product ended up outplaying Patrick Mahomes in a losing effort. He went 19-of-34 for 190 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception. To go into Arrowhead Stadium, which is arguably the toughest place to play a football game in the NFL, and outplay an MVP QB in Mahomes is incredibly impressive. He had some bumps, but that is to be expected in a QB's first game starting in the NFL in a hostile environment.

With Rodgers back for a few more seasons after signing his three-year, $150M contract, Love appears to be his backup for the forseeable future. The relationship between Rodgers and Love is very good. Love has described it like "the Master and the Padawan."

With the release of backup QB Kurt Benkert, there is an opportunity for Love to get more snaps and gain more experience. He did take snaps in six different games last season, so he got a lot time to grow in 2021. Expect more of the same in 2022.

Love is not good enough to try and outplay Rodgers. No. 12 is arguably the greatest thrower of the football ever. His IQ is in a completely different stratosphere compared to the soon-to-be third-year backup. There is no chance of any sort of competition happening the four-time MVP and Love. As long as Rodgers is still playing, he will be the starting quarterback. He is way too elite.

However, expect more snaps in training camp next month for the former first-round pick Love and head coach Matt LaFleur to give him more responsibility as time moves on too.

After seeing No. 10 get actual game reps last season, the Packers know they have a very talented prospect in Love. For now, he will provide some important depth behind Rodgers. Like all Jedi Masters tell their Padawan, patience. If Love stays a little more patient, he could be the future in Green Bay if and when Rodgers decides to hang up his cleats.
