Sherrone Moore still must fill in a few key positions throughout his Michigan football coaching staff, which was left without some top coaches after Jim Harbaugh took the LA Chargers job. Over the weekend, a top NFL coach — Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive line coach Joe Cullen — was linked to the Wolverines’ defensive coordinator opening by an insider at CBS Sports.

Top defensive NFL coach linked to Michigan football defensive coordinator opening

CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones, an NFL insider, says that a top NFL coach is considered a candidate for the Michigan football defensive coordinator opening. Sunday afternoon, he linked Joe Cullen of the Kansas City Chiefs to a number of defensive coordinator jobs including the Michigan Wolverines, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Washington Commanders.

Could Joe Cullen leave Kansas City Chiefs to coach with Sherrone Moore in Ann Arbor?

Joe Cullen is a hot name in NFL circles right now, especially with his Chiefs a week away from facing off in Super Bowl 58 against the San Francisco 49ers. Throughout his career, Cullen has seen stops in the Big Ten with Indiana and Illinois, as well as a stint with LSU in the SEC in the late 1990s. Since then, he has seen action with seven NFL teams, including a quick stint with the Detroit Lions, starting back in 2006.

As Michigan football searches for a new defensive coordinator, Cullen could be a major hire for Sherrone Moore and his Wolverines. If Michigan is to make this hire, they could be bringing on a two-time Super Bowl Champion (if the Chiefs beat San Francisco) who brings a plethora of college football and NFL experience to the table, which should be a major selling point for recruits and transfers alike as the Maize and Blue chase another National Championship.
