Jets sign OL BIlly Turner, another former Aaron Rodgers teammate

When Aaron Rodgers announced that he had committed to playing for the New York Jets in 2023, there was a ton of speculation regarding which of his former teammates would be joining him. Of course, Allen Lazard was the first, arriving before Rodgers was traded with a fresh four-year $44 million contract. Nathaniel Hackett, the former Packers offensive coordinator, preceded both of them after being hired by head coach Robert Saleh. While there were some fans who believed David Bakhtiari might be the next domino to fall, it is actually former Packers offensive lineman Billy Turner who is joining his former quarterback in New Jersey.

The news that Turner was signing with the Jets was announced on Twitter by the NFL Network‘s Tom Pelissero:

“The #Jets are signing veteran OL Billy Turner to a 1-yr deal worth up to $3.15 million, per source. It’s the latest reunion with Aaron Rodgers and Nathaniel Hackett, who coached Turner in Green Bay and Denver. Turner has 75 career starts.”

Turner, a nine-year veteran, will be playing for this third team in as many seasons. His three-year stint in Green Bay was the longest he played for any team at one time. Prior to playing for Hackett and the Denver Broncos last season, Turner played there from 2016-2018. He was originally drafted by the Miami Dolphins but was waived in October 2016.

Rodgers’ good friends Randall Cobb and Marcedes Lewis remain free agents. It will be interesting to see if they, too, follow their old quarterback to the Jets.
