After heartbreaking news to former Alabama great, John Metchie III, diagnosed with APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia). The Texans will be without a significant piece to their rebuilding offense. Metchie produced top moments at Alabama that may have been overshadowed.

We look back at his tenure at the University of Alabama, where he was a champion in the 2020-2021 season. I have listed the top moments of John Metchie’s Alabama career.

John Metchie’s “HIT” on Florida CB

Only defensive players can hit? I will tell you that is an understatement. The 2020 SEC Title game between Alabama and Florida highlighted that.

What ended up being a shootout in Atlanta between the two SEC schools. One defensive play by a WR might have saved Alabama.

Metchie’s Game-Winning Reception Iron Bowl

Most fans would say winning the National Championship is everything. It can be, but not in Alabama when you mention the Iron Bowl. The historic rivalry between the two schools in the state of Alabama in November is the National Championship.

The 86th edition of the Iron Bowl was a classic. The No.2 ranked Alabama came into Jordan-Hare and struggled all night. It took a late 4th quarter TD thrown by QB Bryce Young to WR Ja’Corey Brooks to force OT, the first ever in Iron Bowl history. To make the Thanksgiving table flipped over, it went to 4OT!

Bama and John Metchie sealed the victory in 4OT. Metchie’s catch saved Alabama’s season to represent in the CFP.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the news regarding John Metchie III is saddening, but Metchie is going to pull through. The rookie WR might be sidelined this season, but he will come back stronger. Metchie’s time at Alabama might be overshadowed by other Bama great wideouts like DeVonta Smith and Jameson Williams.

Bama fans will not deny that Metchie always brought his best on the field. As mainly WR2, Metchie was dependable and clutch in the trenches. These top moments at Alabama display that Metchie’s value was huge. John may not contribute this season, but will soon in the future.

Prayers up for Metchie and his family, Bama and Texans fans are with you!
