Kansas City Chiefs Coach Could Get Big Promotion From NFL Teams
Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are zeroed in on winning their third Lombardi trophy in Super Bowl LVIII. However, rumors swirling around one of their coaches have become too large to ignore.

Regardless of the result between the Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, reports suggest that one of the team’s defensive coaches will be headed to a promotion.

What’s disconcerting for the Chiefs Kingdom is that the squads looking to acquire one of their coaches might be willing to pay top dollar to poach him away,

Kansas City Chiefs defensive line coach approached by Seattle, Washington

According to Heavy’s Devon Clements, Joe Cullen is the Kansas City Chiefs defensive line coach that is considered a heavy favorite to become the defensive coordinator of either the Seattle Seahawks or the Washington Commanders.

He explained that the two sides have approached the D-line coach with the opportunity to take over the defensive scheme of their respective teams.

Clements went into further detail about Cullen’s journey through the NFL that got him in talks of a defensive coordinator position:

Cullen has been an NFL coach since 2006.  During his first 14 years in the NFL, he was the defensive line coach for the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Baltimore Ravens respectively.

In 2021, Cullen became a defensive coordinator under then-head coach Urban Meyer in Jacksonville. But he was fired from that role after one season and then joined Kansas City’s coaching staff in 2022.

Cullen has been the architect of Chris Jones’ back-to-back All-Pro seasons and is a major contributor to

his team’s success in the playoffs so far. His impressive resume understandably has teams salivating over his signature,

However, NFL teams aren’t the only ones looking to acquire him. The Michigan Wolverins are also looking to get him to move from the NFL and further build his CV as a defensive mind as their own DC. The appeal of leading a defense that won a national championship should be a tempting one for Cullen.

Whether he actually leaves the Chiefs this offseason is something he isn’t focusing on right now, though. With the various issues the Kansas City Chiefs are currently facing, they need every player and coach to be locked in against the San Francisco 49ers.
