Lions sign WR Josh Reynolds to two-year extension with $12M max value

The Detroit Lions struggled to the tune of an NFC-worst 3-13-1 record during the 2021 season, finished in last place in their division for the fourth straight year and missed the postseason for the fifth consecutive time. They have some promising pieces on offense, though, and they reportedly locked up one of them on a contract extension on Tuesday.

Despite playing in just seven games with Detroit last season — he was signed off waivers from the Tennessee Titans in November — Reynolds finished fifth on the Lions in targets (36) and receiving yards (306), while tying with three other players for third on the squad in touchdown receptions (two). Among players with more than one catch, Reynolds also led Detroit in yards per reception (16.1.)

Reynolds was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft but found targets somewhat hard to come by behind wideouts like Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, among others. The 27-year-old was still able to post solid numbers during his final season in Los Angeles in 2020, recording career highs in targets (81), receptions (52) and receiving yards (618) behind the duo of Kupp and Woods.

Reynolds had just 10 catches on 13 looks for 90 scoreless yards during his time with Tennessee before reuniting with Lions quarterback Jared Goff.
