Multiple Steelers Analysts Strongly Suggest Quickly Trading For Terrell Edmunds To Fix Safety Position

Philadelphia was clearly unhappy with Edmunds' play, but he also was a simple bargaining chip in a deal that helped the Eagles land a top safety as they pursue a second straight Super Bowl appearance. Edmunds is listed as their starting free safety on ESPN's updated depth chart, but a guy like that on a one-year deal with a team selling could easily be acquired for the right price.

The Steelers have had their fair share of troubles in the secondary and issues against the run have led to a dynamic safety in Minkah Fitzpatrick playing all over the place. He hasn't had many splash plays in 2023 and bringing in a former battery mate could provide a boost due to Edmunds' familiarity with the system. Christopher Carter from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette quickly echoed Crowley's idea of putting a call in to Tennessee.

Pittsburgh really misses Edmunds in 2023. He may not have had a terrific short run in Philadelphia, but Fitzpatrick was at his best since the Steelers acquired him in 2019 when Edmunds was playing well beside him. He was one of the more underrated players on the defensive side before departing in free agency to play for the Eagles. The Titans asking price wouldn't be too high and the main goal of making the move would be to free up Fitzpatrick a little bit more.

Tennessee needed help at the safety position when they traded Byard away so it wouldn't seem impossible for them to ask for Keanu Neal or Damontae Kazee in return, but both players signed two-year deals with the Steelers in the 2023 offseason. If anyone can figure something out, it would be Khan, but time will tell if they are interested in bringing Edmunds back to town.

Steelers Likely To Be Buyers At 2023 Trade Deadline

At worst, Pittsburgh will be 4-3 when the deadline for trading occurs on October 31st. There are ways to improve the current roster and there really isn't a disgruntled player to move on from like Chase Claypool in 2022. If Khan is active, it will most likely be looking to bringing in a piece or two that can help the Steelers in the event of a playoff run. Edmunds might be on the top of the list if Tennessee isn't fully bought in on his talents for their secondary.
