New Bills WR ruffles feathers with quote about playing with 'elite quarterback'

Trent Sherfield’s former Dolphins teammates were not happy when the 27-year-old receiver announced he was jumping ship to Miami’s AFC East rival, the Buffalo Bills.

His teammates were also likely not amused when Sherfield seemingly took a shot at Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa during his introductory press conference with Bills media on Tuesday.

“Buffalo came into the picture and it was just like something that I just could not look past with obviously how the offense plays, and obviously (offensive coordinator Ken) Dorsey and Josh Allen and everything like that,” Sherfield said. “It’s like if you want to be an elite receiver, you come and play with an elite quarterback.”

Although Bills beat reporter for Syracuse.com Matt Parrino stated he didn’t believe Sherfield’s remarks were aimed at Tagovailoa, Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill seemed to believe the quote was taken out of context.

Sherfield set career highs in receptions (30), targets (51), yards (417) and touchdowns (two) with the Dolphins in 2022. Prior to last season, Sherfield never had more than 19 receptions or 210 yards in a season and was used primarily on special teams.

The Vanderbilt alum now joins a revamped Bills wide receiver room that includes free agent addition Deonte Harty plus Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, Khalil Shakir, Isaiah Coulter and Dezmon Patmon.
