NFL Analyst Says This Bills Playmaker Will Have His ‘Best Season’

The Buffalo Bills‘ receiving corps took a big hit this offseason, as they lost Gabe Davis to free agency and then traded away Stefon Diggs.

That leaves the Bills with Khalil Shakir, free-agent signing Curtis Samuel and incoming rookie Keon Coleman as their top three receivers, which isn’t exactly an enviable situation.

However, Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport feels that Samuel could be in for a productive year.

Davenport notes the amount of opportunities that Samuel will receive as the most proven pass-catcher on the roster and also mentions his previous production at other stops.

Samuel spent the 2023 campaign with the Washington Commanders, playing in 16 games and catching 62 passes for 613 yards and four touchdowns as the club’s No. 2 option behind Terry McLaurin.

Fantastic numbers? No, but they were solid, and Samuel should see an uptick in targets in Buffalo.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was originally selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

After a couple of rather uneventful years to begin his career, Samuel began to break through in 2019, snaring 54 balls for 627 yards and six scores.

Then, in 2020, Samuel broke out, hauling in 77 receptions for 851 yards while reaching the end zone three times. Additionally, Samuel rushed for 200 yards and a couple of touchdowns that season.

The Brooklyn, N.Y. native proceeded to make his way to the Commanders in 2021, but played in just five games due to injuries. The following year, he rebounded, registering 64 catches for 656 yards and four scores.

When healthy, Samuel has always been a decent receiver, although he has never been a No. 1 guy. Could he end up being the top option for the Bills in 2024?

Davenport seems to think that could be in the cards for Samuel and concludes his synopsis by saying that Buffalo could be in trouble if Samuel doesn’t end up having the best season of his NFL tenure.

We’ll see if Samuel is able to establish himself as a big-time threat for the Bills.

Buffalo went 11-6 and captured its fourth straight AFC East title in 2023. It went on to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round.
