NFL Insider Reveals Massive Comparison For Chiefs’ Xavier Worthy
Sara Diggins / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Kansas City Chiefs selected University of Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy in the first round of the NFL Draft late last month, adding him to a growing stable of weapons for Patrick Mahomes.

Worthy was considered one of the biggest steals of the draft given the circumstances. He is going to a team that has won back-to-back Super Bowl titles and just happened to be in need of another receiver for one of the best quarterbacks in history in Mahomes.

We already know how much Mahomes flourished with speedster Tyreek Hill, who was present in Mahomes’ first four season as the Chiefs’ starter (he was ultimately traded to the Miami Dolphins in March 2022).

Well, Worthy is a burner himself, as he set the NFL record by running a 4.21-second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine back in February.

This has many salivating over the upcoming Mahomes-to-Worthy connection, and with Rashee Rice’s status for 2024 up in the air due to some serious legal issues, it’s possible that Worthy could become one of Mahomes’ top targets right off the bat.

Count NFL insider Jordan Schultz among those who are loving Worthy’s potential.

During a recent appearance on FS1’s Speak, Schultz had a lofty comparison for the 21-year-old: Philadelphia Eagles legend DeSean Jackson.

Jackson was one of the fastest wide outs in the league during his hey day, and while he experienced some injury issues, there was no doubting his impact on the Eagles during his run with the club.

Could Worthy bring the same thing to the table in Kansas City?

The Fresno, Ca. native is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he hauled in 75 receptions for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns.

Worthy arrived at Texas in 2021 and immediately established himself as a massive threat, catching 62 passes for 981 yards and 12 scores. He took a bit of a step back in his sophomore season, snaring 60 balls for 760 yards while reaching the end zone nine times, but he rebounded in a big way last year.

So, just where will Worthy fit into the Chiefs’ offense?

Again, Rice is supposed to be the No. 1 receiver, but he may end up serving a lengthy suspension. The team did sign Marquise Brown in free agency, but he just had a couple of subpar seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.

It stands to reason that Worthy may be one of the driving forces behind a potential Kansas City three-peat next season.

We’ll see if Xavier Worthy is up to the task.
