Patriots-Ex Tedy Bruschi Warns Players About 'Teapot'
USA TODAY Sports

As OTAs wind down for the New England Patriots, with minicamp set to kick off on June 12, the honeymoon phase of the offseason could be coming to an end.

From all indications, everyone is happy with the Patriots' hiring of offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien. There have been positive reviews from quarterback Mac Jones to tight end Mike Gesicki. Yet, Patriots legend-turned-ESPN analyst Tedy Bruschi has recently warned those in Foxboro of what lies ahead, specifically with O'Brien as the coordinator.

“Everything’s roses right now,” Bruschi said, “because in the mini-camps, it’s all about friendships and relationships and developing rapport. That’s what he’s doing right now."

Bruschi is right; what the Patriots are going through right now isn't the real deal of training camp just yet. Until Friday, June 9, it is just voluntary OTAs for the Patriots.

"They call him ‘Teapot‘ for a reason, because that teapot will simmer and simmer and simmer, and pretty soon that’s going to whistle off,” Bruschi added. “Bill O’Brien is a little bit of a hot-head. He wants things done a certain way, and eventually, when the pressure starts ramping up, that’s when all of these players will know this is business."

Bruschi's warning came in response to a comment from Gesicki, who talked about how excited and bought in everyone is to play for him. But why is the Pats legend giving this warning? Is he worried about players being unable to handle the "teapot" coaching of O'Brien?

Maybe, after all, there have been reports that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick told coaches to "not be too hard" on Jones amidst his struggles last season. Yet, this might've been because Belichick was worried about crushing the confidence of his starting quarterback.

Either way, Bruschi wants to make sure the Patriots are ready for the heat that comes with playing under O'Brien.
