Phillip Lindsay becomes third Dolphins RB positive for COVID-19

It was learned on Friday that Miami Dolphins leading rusher Myles Gaskin tested positive for COVID-19 but could potentially be available for this coming Sunday's game against the New York Jets because he's fully vaccinated.

That was just the beginning of Miami's virus-related issues at running back.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero (h/t Kevin Patra), Dolphins running back Phillip Lindsay has tested positive for COVID-19. Salvon Ahmed also tested positive for the virus over the weekend, meaning the Dolphins currently have zero healthy running backs on the active roster as of Monday afternoon.

This doesn't necessarily mean quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will set a record for most passes attempted in an NFL game against the Jets. Patra notes that, like Gaskin, Lindsay and Ahmed are considered fully vaccinated and, thus, could return to team activities if they produce two negative virus tests at least 24 hours apart and remain asymptomatic for at least 48 hours.

According to Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post, Miami ball-carrier Malcolm Brown is sidelined with a quad injury. However, Dolphins head coach Brian Flores told reporters Monday he's "hopeful" Brown will practice this week ahead of the Jets game.

Flores could also rely on veteran Duke Johnson and rookie Gerrid Doaks, both currently on the practice squad, to carry the rock against Gang Green. Lamar Miller was one of "several" running backs who have worked out for the Dolphins amid their current COVID-19 setbacks.

Per ESPN stats, Miami is 31st in the NFL in rushing, averaging a paltry 79.2 yards on the ground per game this season.
