Report: Packers offered to make Aaron Rodgers NFL's highest-paid player

Aaron Rodgers will continue to make headlines until he's traded or his situation with the Green Bay Packers improves.

Wednesday brought several different reports about the reigning MVP. One of those was about a potential new contract. According to The Athletic's Bob McGinn, the Packers offered to make Rodgers the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

Rodgers' $33.5 million annual salary ranks fifth in the league. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the highest-paid passer, and player, at $45 million per season.

While Rodgers is upset about his current contract situation, his dissatisfaction reportedly goes beyond the money. The 37-year-old was reportedly unhappy when general manager Brian Gutekunst selected Jordan Love in last year's draft, and it worsened when the franchise released wide receiver Jake Kumerow last September.

Rodgers also is reportedly adamant about not returning to Green Bay unless Gutekunst is fired. The nine-time Pro Bowler has even mocked Gutekunst in group chats with his teammates.

Rodgers is reportedly interested in playing for the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, Green Bay believes San Francisco and Denver violated the league's tampering rules by contacting Rodgers to see if he was interested in playing for them.

The 49ers are likely out of the picture for Rodgers, but Denver and Las Vegas are likely destinations for the veteran. Rodgers reportedly is intrigued by the Raiders as a potential landing spot.

The Packers are reluctant to trade the three-time MVP, but he could force his way off the team if things don't improve. Rodgers would reportedly consider retiring if he doesn't get what he wants.
