Report: Randall Cobb not at practice, added to injury report

The Green Bay Packers were fortunate to have Allen Lazard back for Week 2 against the Chicago Bears. Lazard didn’t catch many passes, but his presence on the field helped open up the secondary for quarterback Aaron Rodger to sling to open receivers. The Packers missed his veteran knowledge in the Week 1 loss, as the young wide receivers struggled against the Minneapolis Vikings. The Packers might be missing another veteran ball catcher who is being added to the Packers injury report.

Per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic , wide receiver Randall Cobb was not practicing on Wednesday and will be on the Packers’ injury report.

It’s not immediately clear why Cobb was being put on the injury report Wednesday. Cobb missed practice in training camp with a foot injury. He missed a substantial part of the Packers preseason because of the injury.

Cobb has five receptions for 51 yards through the first two weeks this season. His impact is felt by more than those numbers in the offense. Cobb is helping to mentor rookie wide receivers by showing the group how they’re expected to play the game in Green Bay.

Rodgers has been trying to get the ball to his running backs in the passing game as he does not appear to trust his young wide receivers. If Cobb cannot play in Week 3, one would expect the Packers to rely even more heavily on their running backs. The formula was a winning one against the Chicago Bears in Week 2. Running back Aaron Jones finished with 132 yards rushing and 38 receiving against the Bears.
