Report reveals how Seahawks QB is preparing for upcoming season

After a meteoric rise last season, Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith wants to avoid becoming a one-hit-wonder.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported that Smith intensified his training regimen and immediately started working out after Seattle's season ended in January. Even though Smith made his first Pro Bowl last season, he didn't want to relax and regress.

"A lot of guys want to take that time off. But it's a long season, and you take two weeks off, and you kind of lose everything you gained," Smith said, per Breer.

Smith made tremendous progress last season, which he doesn't want to lose. Before he arrived in Seattle, Smith had not been a starter since 2014 and bounced around the league with three teams (Giants, Chargers and Jets.)

After Seattle dealt Russell Wilson to Denver in 2022, Smith became the starter and shocked the league. In 17 games, he threw for the eight-most yards in the NFL (4,282) and fourth-most TDs (30). He also won the 2022 Comeback Player of The Year.

The spectacular season impressed the Seahawks and solidified his status as their future starter. They signed him to a three-year, $75M deal in March.

Smith didn't grow complacent, however. The new deal fueled his hunger. He said he'd be "much better" after he signed it.

Seattle offensive coordinator Shane Waldron believes Smith's offseason workouts paid dividends. "He showed up for our offseason workout program in midseason form," Waldron said Saturday, per Breer.

Perhaps Smith will use the momentum he built in 2022 as a launch pad for his career. That would be ideal for Seattle because they could make the playoffs for a second consecutive year if Smith develops into a legitimate franchise QB.
