Seahawks HC Pete Carroll: 'Conversations have not progressed' with Colin Kaepernick

Since their stunning blockbuster trade of franchise icon Russell Wilson three weeks ago, the Seattle Seahawks are among the most heavily rumored teams to be in the market for a quarterback. Despite acquiring Drew Lock in the deal with the Denver Broncos, many analysts and fans are expecting the Seahawks to go for another quarterback via free agency or the upcoming NFL Draft.

One big name that has been mentioned numerous times as a possibility for being under center next season in Seattle is former San Francisco 49ers signal-caller Colin Kaepernick. While there have been reported discussions between Kaepernick's camp and the Seahawks, head coach Pete Carroll said on Tuesday that those conversations haven't been moving forward.

Earlier in March, the civil rights activist took to social media to provide a brief glimpse into a recent workout. The 34-year-old last played in an NFL game over five years ago.

A star at the University of Nevada, Kaepernick was selected by the Niners in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft and his rushing ability took the league by storm in the early part of his six-season career. He became San Francisco's starting quarterback midway through the 2012 campaign and led the team to Super Bowl XLVII, where they fell to the Baltimore Ravens.

Kaepernick started and played in all 16 games for the 49ers in 2013 and 2014, but injuries and on-field struggles led to reduced playing time in his final two NFL campaigns. Going into the 2017 offseason, the Milwaukee, Wisc., native opted out of his contract with San Francisco and became a free agent.

As he went unsigned through the summer, there were allegations that he was being blackballed due to his on-field political statements, most noticeably kneeling during the national anthem before multiple games to protest police brutality and racial inequality. In October 2017, Kaepernick filed a grievance against the league, accusing league owners of colluding to keep him out of the NFL, and despite having multiple workouts with various teams since his last game on Jan. 1, 2017, he hasn't been signed to a contract as of yet.
