Seahawks RB Chris Carson: I'll 'continue to fight and get back onto the field'

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll offered a rather bleak update when he told reporters on Thursday that running back Chris Carson hasn't been cleared to resume football activities following the neck injury he suffered last fall that ended his 2021 season after just four games and that required him to have surgery.

"There’s a big assessment to be done about two weeks from now. The docs and the surgeons and all that will reconvene and see where he is and let us know. . . . We’ll see what happens here," Carroll added during those comments.

Seattle drafted ball-carrier Kenneth Walker III in the second round back in April presumably as cover just in case Carson can't take the field this fall. Carson recently spoke with Heavy's Jonathan Adams about his status, and the 27-year-old let it be known there's "no timeline" for his potential return or for a possible retirement announcement.

"Oh, we still going right now," Carson explained. "I see myself playing until I feel like stopping. My mindset is never to give up. So, I’m staying positive like I said, and continue to fight and get back onto the field."

Carson is in the final active year of his contract but indicated he envisions signing at least one more deal either with the Seahawks or a different club.

"Not trying to rush it, I’m just trying to take it one day at a time," Carson continued while speaking about his recovery. "Just keep rehabbing, keep getting better. Keep building strength and then go from there. But like I said, there’s no timeline for me."

Judging by Carroll's words, the football world should have a better idea about Carson's health by or around June 24.
