Texans' Tank Dell insists refs were wrong on potentially game-changing play vs. Jaguars
Thomas Shea-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Texans did not get the result they wanted on Sunday, as a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars would have given them sole possession of first place in the AFC South. But, the game was very winnable. In fact, they should have won this game for a few different reasons.

I hate to be that guy, but there were two field goals that got missed. If Matt Ammendola makes the game-tying field goal, then the game goes into overtime, and who knows what happens? But he missed a 58-yarder. It happens.

However, he also missed one from about 20 yards closer earlier in the game, which, had he made it, that final kick would have been the game-winning kick.

Secondly, the officiating in this game was terrible on both sides, really, but a few calls against the Texans stand out more. The "illegal shift" penalty on Tannk Dell when C.J. Stroud found him 50 yards downfield is laughable. No other player is in motion if you watch the replay.

And then, of course, there is the call on Tank Dell being out of bounds and the catch being incomplete. Dell himself had some words about the call in the locker room after the game.

"I definitely got my feet down," Dell told reporters.

He said it with such a serious face, too. The Texans are fun again, and Tank Dell was really, really good. He was maybe the best receiver on the entire field Sunday in that game. However, the referees taking over the game is not fun. He and CJ. Stroud still made history, though.
