Titans have unique plan if Ryan Tannehill can't play vs. Falcons

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel clearly doesn't agree with the adage that teaches a team with two starting quarterbacks actually has none at all.

Per Kevin Patra of the NFL's website and Turron Davenport of ESPN, Vrabel told reporters Tuesday that he "would anticipate both" 2022 third-round draft pick Malik Willis and 2023 second-round draft choice Will Levis playing against the 4-3 Atlanta Falcons this coming Sunday if veteran starter Ryan Tannehill can't go because of an ankle injury Tannehill suffered on Oct. 15.

"We'll see what the game plan looks like," Vrabel explained. "First of all, see where Ryan's at, and then talk about what we may want to do throughout the course of the game."

The Titans entered their Week 7 bye at 2-4 and seemingly became sellers ahead of the Oct. 31 trade deadline when they sent two-time All-Pro safety Kevin Byard to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday. Tannehill, meanwhile, is in the final season of his contract, so the Titans theoretically could protect the 35-year-old through the weekend to shop him to teams looking for quarterback help for the campaign's second half.

Tennessee also could part ways with Tannehill after the trade deadline.

Willis filled in for the injured Tannehill during the Week 6 24-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens and took four sacks across two fourth-quarter drives. He completed just four of five passes for 74 yards to go along with 17 rushing yards on three carries.

Levis hasn't yet made his pro debut after he dealt with a thigh injury in August.

Along with Tannehill, the Titans may look to acquire assets for star running back Derrick Henry before next Tuesday evening arrives. Henry said Tuesday he's focused on trying to help Tennessee defeat Atlanta "until I'm told different."

As of Tuesday afternoon, OddsChecker listed the Titans as two-point underdogs against the Falcons.
