Vikings CB Kris Boyd starts fundraiser for families of Uvalde shooting victims

Members of the American sports community continue to react to this week's horrific shooting in Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 young children and two teachers dead.

Long before cornerback Kris Boyd entered the NFL and became a member of the Minnesota Vikings as a seventh-round draft pick in 2019, he was born nearly 430 miles away from Uvalde. As Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk noted, Boyd has launched a GoFundMe page to hopefully raise at least $100,000 to benefit families directly impacted by America's latest gun-related tragedy.

"I just feel like it’s something I had to do, with me being from Texas and having such a huge platform and being a father, a brother, an older brother to my little sister and my little brother and being an older cousin," Boyd explained while speaking with The Dallas Morning News. "Just thinking how could it happen? How it had been somewhere like that. It hit close to home. . . . It’s heartbreaking. It’s devastating. I feel like no one should have to really go through that."

Williams notes that fellow Minnesota cornerback Cameron Dantzler and Washington Commanders star wide receiver Terry McLaurin were among NFL personalities who had donated to Boyd's cause as of late Friday afternoon.

Also on Friday, San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler shared an emotional reaction to the Texas shooting on his personal website.
