Avalanche Locker Room: O’Connor On Template Win, ‘Nasty’ Cogliano Dish

O’Connor on Cogliano’s sweet dish:

“That was pretty nasty by Cogs. He was grinning after that one. I’ll be hearing (about) that one for a long time.”

Bednar on the overall game from the Avalanche: 

“Liked it a lot. Good first period, and second period might have been our most complete period of the year. I thought our checking game, getting back above pucks, turning pucks over in the neutral zone, getting it back in, keeping them on 3/4 ice, that was outstanding.”

“From the goaltender out, that’s what it’s supposed to look like from our standpoint. To sort of dig in the last couple of games after a disappointing loss and get two really good victories at home, I think that’s what we want. Just got to remind the guys when we come back on the 27th just how it looks when we do it right. The second period is a template of how we should want to play.”

Bednar on the depth of the Avalanche:

“They were great. Those guys have been digging in. Whenever they can chip-in offensively, like Olofsson has a goal on a great pass from Cogliano, then he sets up Manson, etc, etc. Colton and Wood, they made a huge impact in the game. Wood draws that penalty, we still get the scoring chance out of it. Physical. I liked those guys a lot tonight.”

Bednar on Georgiev’s performance:

“He just looked sharp, focused. I mean, top of the crease all the time. Their most dangerous chances, for me, came in the third period on a couple of those plays that guys are walking in. When I see them coming in there, and I see Georgie at the top of the crease, and he’s scooping them up, he just look sharp and ready.”

Bednar on the defense chipping in:

“Sometimes our ‘D’, I find, are leery to shoot in o-zone play. We go to work down low off a forecheck, we’re grinding down there, we get it up to our ‘D’ and then they either want to pass it or rim it back down. I’d rather see guys step and shoot and cause havoc at the net by crashing the net. We do have a possession game mentality, which is fine, but sometimes I think you got to shoot it.”
