Chicago Blackhawks forward Brett Connolly will likely be facing discipline for a monstrous hit he delivered on Saturday night. The NHL’s Department of Player Safety called a hearing for Connolly regarding his interference penalty against Tanner Kero of the Stars.

Just three minutes into the game, Connolly stepped into Kero along the boards even though the Stars forward did not have the puck. Connolly finished his check and knocked Kero out cold.

Connolly received a five-minute major penalty for interference and a game misconduct. Tanner Kero exited the ice on a stretcher and went to the hospital for further evaluation.

Saturday night marked just the second Blackhawks game Brett Connolly has skated in this season. The team recalled him from the AHL Rockford IceHogs last week in the wake of Reese Johnson’s injury. Now, he may not have a chance to re-enter the lineup until the calendar flips to 2022 depending on the length of a potential suspension.
