Blackhawks Injury Updates: Ryan Donato, Philipp Kurashev
Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Blackhawks have a few injuries on their hands midway through the 2023 preseason. Forwards Ryan Donato and Philipp Kurashev are dealing with ailments of varying degrees. Here's the latest on each.

Ryan Donato

Donato was a late scratch from Tuesday's exhibition tilt against the Detroit Red Wings. The 27-year-old is dealing with a groin injury, but head coach Luke Richardson doesn't seem too concerned about it.

"Probably not very long, I think day to day at the most," Richardson said of Donato's timeline. "Exhibition games, we’re not going to fool around with that right now."

Donato, who signed a two-year deal with Chicago over the summer, has been skating with Connor Bedard and Taylor Hall on the Blackhawks' first line throughout training camp.

Philipp Kurashev

Kurashev is dealing with a wrist injury that may sideline him for the beginning of the regular season.

Richardson said the 23-year-old will resume skating soon but the wrist issue will keep him out at least another week. The Blackhawks expect to have more information after Kurashev's next doctor's appointment.

If the Swiss forward's wrist issue causes him to miss regular-season action, Tyler Johnson or Taylor Raddysh could see time on the Blackhawks' second line.
