Bruins HC Bruce Cassidy placed in COVID-19 protocol

The Boston Bruins take on the Detroit Red Wings at 7:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, but they'll be without head coach Bruce Cassidy.

Cassidy is in his sixth season as the B's head coach and eighth NHL campaign overall. The Bruins are currently in the middle of a crowded Eastern Conference at 11-7-0 and tied with the New Jersey Devils with 22 points.

The No. 7 Pittsburgh Penguins (10-7-5, 25 points) and No. 13 Buffalo Sabres (8-11-3, 19 points) are separated by just six points.

Cassidy spent the 2002-2003 season and part of the 2003-2004 campaign at the helm of the Washington Capitals, posting a 47-47-16 record. The 56-year-old took over Boston's head-coaching duties from Claude Julien midway through the 2016-2017 season and has compiled a 205-89-41 mark with the Bruins.

Boston has made the Stanley Cup playoffs in every season under Cassidy and made it to the Stanley Cup Final in 2019 before falling to the St. Louis Blues in seven games. Cassidy was given the Jack Adams Award (Coach of the Year) following the 2019-2020 campaign where the Bruins won their division and went 44-14-12.
