Bruins sign defenseman Brandon Carlo to six-year, $24.6 million extension

Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

The Bruins announced Wednesday that they signed Carlo to a six-year extension worth $24.6 million that carries an annual salary-cap hit of $4.1 million.

The 24-year-old played in 27 regular-season games for the Bruins during the 2020-21 campaign and recorded three goals and one assist. He also appeared in eight postseason contests this spring but tallied no points.

Earlier in the day, Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller announced his retirement.

"The Bruins are very pleased to have extended Brandon on a long-term deal," general manager Don Sweeney said about locking Carlo down. "Brandon is a player who has grown into a foundational defenseman with our team while also emerging as an important leader on and off the ice."

Carlo missed 10 games this past season due to a concussion he suffered in March related to a hit delivered by Washington Capitals forward and repeat offender Tom Wilson. Wilson earned a seven-game suspension for the hit.
