The Montreal Canadiens will be honouring former defenseman P.K. Subban prior to the Jan. 12 game against the Nashville Predators in what will be known as the “P.K. Subban Homecoming” tribute.

The 33-year-old will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.

“We are thrilled to welcome P.K. back to his first NHL home this January,” said Canadiens owner, president, and CEO Geoff Molson. “We look forward to giving our fans a chance to celebrate his career and the impact he had — and continues to have — on the Montreal community.

"Whether it’s kids on local minor hockey teams choosing to wear No. 76, or the number of fans we see on any given night at the Bell Centre who still proudly wear their Subban jerseys, you don’t have to go far to understand the influence P.K. had on the popularity of the sport in Quebec.”

Subban announced his retirement from the NHL in September after a 13-year career with the Canadiens, Predators and New Jersey Devils.

He was drafted in the second round of the 2007 NHL Draft and donned the Habs jersey for 434 games and registered 63 goals and 278 points.

In 2013, Subban won the Norris Trophy after putting up 38 points (11G, 27A) in a 42-game lockout-shortened season.

Throughout his career he was a three-time Norris Trophy finalist and most recently in 2021-22 he won the NHL’s King Clancy Trophy, which is the NHL’s Leadership and Humanitarian Award.

In 2016, Subban was dealt in a blockbuster deal to the Predators in exchange for Shea Weber.

He also started the P.K. Subban Foundation, and in 2015 he pledged to raise $10M for the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Part of the donation was also used to create a fund called “P.K’s Helping Hands” which provides financial assistance to families of sick children.
