Canucks offseason signing injured
Vancouver Canucks defenseman Carson Soucy John Geliebter-USA TODAY Sports

Vancouver Canucks’ defenseman Carson Soucy was injured during Sunday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens and did not return.

The team did not disclose what type of injury the 29-year-old suffered, but it appears he may have hurt himself while blocking a Juraj Slafkovsky shot early in the second period.

Soucy had 8:26 of ice time before leaving the game. The Canucks went on to defeat the Canadiens 5-2, improving their record to 11-3-1, good for second in the Western Conference’s Pacific Division.

Through 13 games with the Canucks, Soucy has two goals and three assists for five points, averaging 17:34 of ice time. He is in the first season of the three-year, $9.75 million contract he signed with Vancouver over the offseason.

Soucy spent the last two seasons with the Seattle Kraken after being selected by the club in the 2021 Expansion Draft. It was during his first season with the Kraken in 2021-22 that he hit career highs, scoring 10 goals and 21 points.

Soucy was drafted in the sixth round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild, then enrolled with the University of Minnesota-Duluth to play four years of college hockey. Through four seasons, he scored 12 goals and 35 assists for 47 points.

After college, Soucy signed an entry-level deal with the Wild, where between 2017-18 and 2018-19, he would score six goals and notch 29 assists for 35 points in 133 games with the AHL’s Iowa Wild.

Soucy would make the NHL club in 2019-20 and solidify himself as a staple to Minnesota’s blue line, scoring eight goals and 23 assists for 31 points in 105 games across two seasons.

Across six NHL seasons, Soucy has 23 goals and 50 assists for 73 points in 263 games.
