Capitals announce T.J. Oshie out indefinitely, John Carlson day-to-day

The Washington Capitals provided updates on the injuries of forward T.J. Oshie and defenseman John Carlson, and it’s not good. Oshie is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. 

Meanwhile, Carlson, who also has a lower-body injury, is day-to-day but will not play in Tuesday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Oshie’s injury occurred early in the first period of Saturday’s 3-0 win over the Nashville Predators. He pulled up during a Predators shorthanded breakaway before heading to the locker room with assistance.

Carlson went down late in the same period, falling awkwardly in the corner of the defensive zone trying to clear the puck. Carlson played a seven-second shift before exiting the game and not returning.

The Capitals (5-4-0) are dealing with several injuries to key players. Nicklas Backstrom, Tom Wilson and Carl Hagelin have yet to touch the ice this season. 

Backstrom and Hagelin are dealing with hip injuries. Wilson is rehabbing the torn ACL he suffered during the first round of the playoffs last May.

Capitals forward Connor Brown is out long term with a lower-body injury he suffered on Oct. 17 against Vancouver.
