Even though Wilson has a reputation for being a dirty player, the veteran winger did not receive a penalty for the high hit. Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette didn't see anything wrong with the hit, saying it "just looked like a hard hit in the corner."
It's unclear if Wilson will be fined, suspended or a combination of both. He was suspended four times from September 2017 to October 2018 for illegal hits in a 105-game span. The 26-year-old has not been suspended since 2018 and is no longer considered a repeat offender under the department's rules.
Phone hearings typically indicate the NHL is considering a suspension of five games or fewer, while in-person means it's considering one of greater length.
