Denis Gurianov Named AHL's Player of the Week
USA TODAY Sports

The AHL announced that Milwaukee Admirals forward Denis Gurianov is the league's Player of the Week.

The acknowledgement comes after Gurianov scored four goals and six points in the team's last three games. The Russian winger scored twice and recorded two assists in the December 27 win over the Chicago Wolves. Gurianov scored a goal in each of the two games on December 30 and 31 against the Rockford Ice Hogs, a back to back that the Admirals split with the Ice Hogs.

Gurianov was the 12th overall pick in the 2015 draft by the Dallas Stars, and this offseason Barry Trotz signed him to a one-year, $850,000 contract. Gurianov was placed on waivers and reassigned to Milwaukee after not making the roster out of training camp. The decision to send Gurinov to Milwaukee was a difficult one for head coach Andrew Brunette.

"With him, we hope he goes to Milwaukee and gets his game because we still believe in him. I still think he has an aspect of speed and can score at this level and he could help us. If he goes down and plays and gets his confidence, it'll be interesting to see him come back," Brunette said in early October.

Gurianov has taken advantage of his opportunity in Milwaukee. This season the 26-year-old has played 27 games for the Admirals. He has scored 12 goals and leads the team with 30 points. He ranks sixth overall in points in the entire AHL as well.
