Devils acquire Curtis Lazar from Canucks

Lazar will add physicality to the Devils’ loaded forward group. The 28-year-old is a spirited forechecker who was second among Canucks forwards in hits. Lazar had spent the previous week on IR.

For New Jersey, the trade is a low-risk move that enriches their bottom-six forward options. Vancouver, meanwhile, continues a sale that has included Bo Horvat and Luke Schenn thus far.

The Devils acquired sniper Timo Meier from the Sharks earlier in the window in a blockbuster 13-piece trade. As it stands, they would face the rival New York Rangers at home in the playoffs, but leapfrogging the Carolina Hurricanes for the Metropolitan Division’s top seed is still very much a possibility.

New Jersey is on a three-game win streak during which they have recorded two seven-goal explosions. They will battle the Vegas Golden Knights tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET before rounding out their three-game road trip in Arizona on Sunday.
