Ducks forward Max Jones out four to six months with torn pectoral

Anaheim Ducks forward Max Jones went down with an injury in this past Monday's 3-2 overtime win over the Calgary Flames.

The Ducks now know Jones won't return to action for some time.

Per the NHL's website, Jones will have surgery next Wednesday to repair a torn pectoral muscle. The 23-year-old is expected to miss four-to-six months of action and, thus, will be sidelined for most and maybe all of the 2021-22 season.

"It's a tough blow for Max as he made strides last season and was heading in the right direction this year as well," Anaheim general manager Bob Murray said. "We hope to have him back this year and at full strength."

Jones notched zero points and 15 penalty minutes in two games before the setback. The first-round pick from the 2016 draft has accumulated 17 goals and 11 assists across 137 regular-season contests.

Per Eric Stephens of The Athletic, the Ducks were hoping to bolster Jones' penalty-killing abilities this fall and winter, but the team should have adequate cover at the winger position to account for his absence without having to immediately make a transaction.
