We have another trade to add to this unique offseason as the Stanley Cup Final hasn’t even been set yet. The Minnesota Wild in a quest to get a younger by any means necessary, traded Eric Staal to the Buffalo Sabres.

Eric Staal traded to the Sabres

Eric Staal is on the move the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Marcus Johansson. The Wild get back a 30 year old forward but take on an extra $1.25 million in cap space.

Staal who is 35 years-old was in shock by the trade and there is speculation this could lead to his retirement.

Montreal signs Joel Edmundson

The Canadiens have announced a new deal for defenseman, Joel Edmundson. After acquiring his rights for a fifth round pick, the Habs have locked up the 27 year-old defenseman for four years. The deal comes with an AAV of $3.5 million.

As we noted earlier , rumors have it that this is a precursor to a much bigger move for Marc Bergevin.

Now that Eric Staal has been traded and Jonas Brodin signed, Matt Dumba is generating a lot of interest out there. It was revealed on TSN’s latest Insider Trading that teams have been calling.

Additionally, Pierre Lebrun reported that an offer was made to Alex Pietrangelo and it barely “moved the needle.”

In other news, former Stars head coach, Jim Montgomery is back as an assistant coach in the NHL.
