One of the Calgary Flames’ goaltending prospects has received a league honour, but it’s probably not the prospect or league that you think. Down in the ECHL, Kansas City Mavericks goaltender Daniil Chechelev has been named that circuit’s top goaltender of the past week.

The 20-year-old product of Russia is in his first year of North American pro hockey. He registered two wins this past week, including making 46 saves for his first North American pro shutout.

Currently signed to an AHL contract, Chechelev was the Flames’ fourth-round pick, 96th overall, selected with the draft choice they received from Buffalo for Michael Frolik.
