Joe Pavelski scores again as Stars shut out Jets
James Carey Lauder-USA TODAY Sports

Joe Pavelski extended his hot streak by scoring the winning goal and goaltender Jake Oettinger posted his first shutout of the season as the visiting Dallas Stars claimed a 2-0 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.

Tyler Seguin also scored for the Stars, who received a 27-save performance from Oettinger for his eighth career shutout in the battle for second place in the Central Division, which is led by the Colorado Avalanche.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 19 shots for the Jets in the first outing in a four-game homestand. Winnipeg has lost two straight games following a five-game winning streak.

The Stars arrived in Winnipeg on a 1-2-1 skid and coming off a blown two-goal lead in a 7-4 home loss to the Calgary Flames on Friday, but Dallas put in a much better performance to earn the win.

Right after killing consecutive penalties that even resulted in a 68-second five-on-three power play for the Jets, the Stars opened the scoring at 12:54 of the second period.

Jason Robertson's shot attempt was blocked, but Roope Hintz grabbed the puck in the slot, and as he was heading behind the net sent a pass to the front that Pavelski quickly converted for his 10th goal of the season. Pavelski ran his point-scoring streak to seven games, in which he has produced five goals and three assists.

The Jets challenged for goaltender interference because Pavelski's stick clipped Hellebuyck's mask just before the puck came to him, but it was ruled a proper goal.

Winnipeg received another five-on-three advantage, this time for 44 seconds, early in the third period, but again failed to convert. Again that proved to be costly.

Seguin doubled the Dallas lead with 3:15 remaining in regulation. Mason Marchment flipped a pass over a sprawling defender while on a two-on-one rush, and Seguin found the mark for his seventh goal of the campaign and fifth in six games.
