Here's a list of notable events on February 28 in Chicago Blackhawks history.

2015: Blackhawks Trade for Antoine Vermette

On February 28, 2015, the Blackhawks acquired Antoine Vermette from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Klas Dahlbeck and a 2015 first-round draft pick.

Vermette was the perfect rental acquisition to solidify the Blackhawks' center group for a playoff run. He had three assists in 19 regular-season games and seven points (four goals, three assists) in 20 playoff games as the Blackhawks won the 2015 Stanley Cup.

2023: Blackhawks Trade Patrick Kane to Rangers

On February 28, 2023, the Blackhawks traded franchise legend Patrick Kane to the New York Rangers in exchange for a conditional 2023 second-round pick, a 2025 fourth-round pick, and defenseman Andy Welinski. The Hawks also landed Vili Saarijarvi from the Arizona Coyotes as part of the deal.

Kane's time in Chicago was nothing short of legendary. Across parts of 16 seasons, he scored 1,225 points in 1,161 regular-season games and 132 points in 136 playoff games en route to three Stanley Cups.

The trade reunited Kane with former Hawks forward Artemi Panarin, but their star power wasn't enough as the Rangers got bounced in the first round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
