The Ontario Reign have brought back one of the most consistent players from last season’s team in left-shot defenseman Cameron Gaunce:

The Sudbury, ON native played 61 games last season for the Reign, picking up 20 assists and 27 points.  The 2021-22 campaign was Gaunce’s second with the organization. He had 13 points in 24 games during the 2020-21 season.

Gaunce, 32, will provide stability to a very young defense corps.  Tentatively, the blueline in Ontario sets up like this:

Gaunce – Jordan Spence (20)
Tobie Paquette-Bisson (24) – Helge Grans (19)
Kim Nousiainen (21) – Frederic Allard (24)

Depending on what happens in Los Angeles, Tobias Bjornfot (21) could be an option for the Ontario Reign if the Kings decide to get him some more AHL seasoning. Jacob Moverare (24) would have to clear waivers while college signee Tyler Inamoto (22) is another potential left-shot defenseman in Ontario.

Originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in 2008, this will be Gaunce’s 14th season in the AHL, playing 731 games while also playing 31 NHL games between the Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Tampa Bay Lightning.
