Penguins Waive Hinostroza
Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

TORONTO — In a clear sign they expect Rickard Rakell to rejoin the lineup, the Pittsburgh Penguins waived forward Vinnie Hinostroza on Friday. Presumably, he’ll report to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL if he clears on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Hinostroza, 29, has bounced around the Penguins lineup, playing everywhere from the top-line right wing to the fourth line and even on the top power-play unit.

However, Hinostroza has only three points in 12 games. The Penguins also have forwards Jansen Harkins and Marc Johnstone, who are recent emergency recalls, on the roster.

Hinostroza has 11 shots over his last two games and played 15 minutes against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. He has been without a point in his last eight NHL games.
