Peter Laviolette sees nothing wrong with Tom Wilson's hit on Brandon Carlo

Friday's game between the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals took a turn for the worse when Tom Wilson hit Brandon Carlo up high along the boards, smashing his head into the glass during the second period.

Carlo was taken to the hospital for further evaluation, but Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette said he didn't see anything wrong with the hit that likely concussed the Bruins defender.

"I saw the hit," Laviolette said, according to Samantha Pell of the Washington Post. "His feet were on the ice, he stayed down with everything. Just looked like a hard hit in the corner. Not exactly sure what happened, but to me, it looked like just a hit."

Even though Wilson has a reputation for being a dirty player, the veteran winger did not receive a penalty for the high hit. Bruins defenseman Jarred Tinordi and center Trent Frederic fought Wilson later in the game in retaliation.

Because of the incident, the Bruins became far more motivated to win the game, beating the Capitals 5-1 to move to 13-5-3 on the season. The two teams don't meet again until April 8.

According to Pell, the NHL has not yet reached out to the Capitals and/or Wilson for a hearing with Player Safety.
