P.K. Subban Isn’t Just Riding The Predators’ Hype Train, He’s Driving It

It’s safe to say that former Nashville Predators defensemen-turned-ESPN hockey analyst P.K. Subban is a big believer in what Barry Trotz and Andrew Brunette are doing in their first season as Predators general manager and head coach, respectively.

In a one-minute and 18-second video posted to his official X account on Thursday, Subban gave the Predators and their leadership rave reviews as the team is riding a 15-game point streak and fought its way from playoff afterthought to the No. 1 wild-card team in the Western Conference in a little over four weeks.

“Why the f— isn’t anyone talking about the Nashville Predators?” Subban exclaimed. “In their last 14 games [they’re] 12-0-2 [with an] eight-game winning streak and they have not lost a game in regulation since February 15.

“…It starts with leadership. … If these guys aren’t up for GM of the Year and Coach of the Year, it’s blasphemous. From Roman Josi himself, Andrew Brunette is a big part of the reason why they have a winning culture now in Nashville once again. … Now he’s got a team that is very likely to possibly upset somebody, a major team, in the first round.”

The Predators have won 13 of their last 15 games, and they haven’t lost in regulation since a 9-2 defeat to the Dallas Stars on Valentine’s Day.

Their red-hot run has put them comfortably in the front seat for the first wild-card spot in the West, and they have a 98.9% chance to make the playoffs and a 39.8% chance to win a playoff round, according to Money Puck.

“If I’m a team in the West, I do not want to see the Nashville Predators [in the playoffs],” Subban added. “…The Nashville Predators are for real and they deserve to start getting their flowers.”

Subban played three seasons for the Predators from 2016 to 2019, tallying 35 goals and 130 points across 211 games. He was a part of the most successful Predators teams in franchise history, winning two Central Division titles and a Western Conference title, as well as playing in the franchise’s first-ever Stanley Cup Final and winning the only Presidents’ Trophy in team history.
