Predators re-sign defenseman to one-year contract
Alexandre Carrier. Marc DesRosiers-USA TODAY Sports

The Nashville Predators have signed defenseman Alexandre Carrier to a one-year contract worth $2.5 million, per PuckPedia.

Carrier dealt with a handful of injuries, missing nearly half the season with various upper-body ailments. The Predators still liked what they saw despite his nine-point season, with his ice time falling to 17:53 a game.

His rookie season was spectacular, scoring three goals and 30 points to earn Calder Trophy consideration in 2021-22. Carrier has played parts of five seasons, with six goals and 42 points over five years since making his NHL debut during the 2016-17 season.

The deal is Carrier’s third NHL contract, finishing off a three-year deal worth $733,333 per season.

The Predators were active on Saturday, signing Gustav Nyquist, Ryan O’Reilly and Luke Schenn. The Predators have eight defensemen signed for next year making up $30.834 million of the team’s cap hit. The club also have $4.25 million in retained salary (Ryan Johansen and Mattias Ekholm), as well as $4.555 million in buyout cash tied to Matt Duchene and Kyle Turris. The Predators have $1.010 million in projected cap space with a near-complete roster.
