The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed forward Tyson Jost and goaltender Dustin Tokarski to one-year contracts, TSN’s Chris Johnston and Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday.

Jost, 25, collected seven goals and 25 points in 71 games split between the Minnesota Wild and Sabres during the 2022–23 regular season.

The Sabres had elected not to tender Jost a qualifying offer as a pending restricted free agent on Friday, but they circled back and managed to get a deal done on UFA day.

Jost’s new contract with the Sabres reportedly carries a $2 million cap hit. He’ll be eligible to become an RFA again next summer.

The Colorado Avalanche originally selected Jost in the first round (No. 10 overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft. The five-foot-eleven center made his NHL debut with the Avalanche late in the 2016–17 season after spending a year at the University of North Dakota.

Jost spent parts of six seasons with the Avalanche before being dealt to the Minnesota Wild for Nico Sturm at the 2022 trade deadline. While Sturm won the Stanley Cup in Colorado, Jost finished out the year with the Wild and went goalless in 12 games with the team to start 2022–23 before being claimed off waivers by the Sabres.

Through 413 career games over parts of seven NHL seasons with the Avalanche, Wild, and Sabres, Jost has collected 54 goals and 134 points. He’s added six goals and 10 points in 46 career playoff contests.

Tokarski, 33, returns to the Sabres after spending the 2022–23 season in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. According to Friedman, his new two-way deal with the Sabres carries a $775,000 NHL cap hit.

The veteran goaltender previously appeared in 42 games with the Sabres over the 2020–21 and 2021–22 seasons.

Tokarski has played in 80 NHL games with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks, Sabres, and Penguins during his career, going 23–34–12 with a .902 save percentage.
