Senators’ Parker Kelly to have hearing for illegal check to the head of Kings’ Andreas Englund

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that Ottawa Senators forward Parker Kelly will have a hearing for his illegal check to the head of Los Angeles Kings defenseman Andreas Englund during Thursday night’s 4-3 loss to the Kings.

Kelly has notched six goals and seven assists for 13 points and 18 penalty minutes in 61 games this season with Ottawa.

The 24-year-old is in his third full season with the Senators after signing an entry-level contract right out of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 2017. Following the end of the 2021-22 campaign, Kelly re-signed with the Senators for two years at $1,525,000, the contract has an average annual value (AAV) of $762,500. Kelly has played 158 games over parts of four seasons with the Senators, collecting 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points and adding 115 penalty minutes in that frame. He had a good run with the Senators’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the Belleville Senators collecting 26 goals and 49 points in 128 career games.

The Camrose, Alberta product helped the Prince Albert Raiders hoist the WHL Championship in 2018-19 after scoring 35 goals and 67 points in 64 games. Kelly added eight goals and nine assists for 18 points in 23 WHL Playoff contests, he was held pointless during his three Memorial Cup games.

Ottawa currently sits eighth in the Atlantic Division with a 25-32-4 record and 54 points through 61 games. The Senators continue their road trip in the Golden State as they take on the San Jose Sharks on Saturday before heading home to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.
