The Boston Bruins continue to be a juggernaut
Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

Despite the offseason retirements of forwards Patrice Bergeron and David Krejic, the Boston Bruins continue to be the juggernaut that they looked like last season.

Going into Jan. 23, the Bruins were 29-8-9 with 67 points, seven points ahead of the Florida Panthers for the division lead and seven points ahead of the New York Rangers in the Metropolitan Division.

On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the Bruins’ success and where it goes from here.

Frank Seravalli: Boston has won five straight games. Look at where they’re at, especially after the hot start they had, then look at other teams that started hot: Vegas Golden Knights, L.A. Kings, New York Rangers, they’ve all come back down to Earth. But the Bruins have a six-point lead in their division and a decent edge on everyone else in the Eastern Conference.

They’re not the juggernaut they were last season, but when you look at what they’re on pace for again, with the pieces they’re missing, this is a crazy year for the Bruins.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Nine-game point streak for the Bruins, seven points clear of the Rangers and Florida Panthers. When you first said that, I looked at the NHL standings and thought surely one of those teams have two or three games on hand, but no! The Bruins haven’t even lost 10 regulation games yet.

Frank Seravalli: They’re on pace for 120 points this year!

Tyler Yaremchuk: It’s bananas, and we’re talking about them potentially adding at the Trade Deadline. They may not have the assets for a big trade, but if it gets closer to the deadline and they have a seven-to-10 point gap for the Presidents’ Trophy in a year where the Eastern Conference is wide open, this should be a season where they do anything they can to win.
